1967 Chevelle SS 396 Recent Frame Off Restoration
Complete fully documented one year frame off restoration completed in fall of 2013. The entire car was pulled apart and stripped to bare metal. Car received two new quarter panels, rear deck below rear window, new passenger side fender and new floors front and rear. Every nut and bolt came off the car. Every system on car was rebuilt or was replaced with new parts. Car has only been driven 4 k miles since restoration. Car has a non numbers matching but date correct 1967 396 engine .30 over bored. Engine came from donor car and was rebuilt 8 years ago only has 30K miles on it. I have a book with hundreds of pictures of the restoration which will go with the car. I perform all the body and mechanical work myself and have done many of these cars over the past 25 years. I can answer any questions just ask. The pictures I posted are new I just shot them today. The frame off pics are from 2013 just after I finished the restoration.
CAR Numbers:
Vin = 138177B203994
Motor =T0216EF7B159843 = 1967 350HP 396CI rebuilt with 30k miles on it
Block Casting = 3902406 = 1967 396CI
Transmission Main Case = 3925660 Muncie M20 wide ratio
Rear End = KY0327B 12 Bolt Posi Currently with 3.42 Yukon Gears
Drivetrain:
The motor has been rebuilt to original specs 350 HP and has 30k miles on it since. The intake manifold, carb and water pump were upgraded to Edelbrock Performer but I still have the original cast iron intake and water pump. The car has power steering and upgraded highoutput alternator along with Pertronix ignition system.
The transmission is a four speed Muncie M20, there are no issues it works fine. The driveshaft has new U joints .
The rearend is a Factory Posi unit that was rebuilt with new Yukon 3.42 gears, all bearings and seals were replaced when the gears were done.
Body:
The body was stripped to bare metal, all rust was fixed, the floors are new, as are both quarter panels, rear deck behind rear window and passenger side fender. The car is very straight and solid. No dents and no rust. All doors open and close nicely and gaps are good. Less than 1 quart or body filler was use on the entire car and most of that was block sanded away.
Suspension:
The entire suspension system is new, the front suspension is new aftermarket everything is new. The ball joints, idler arms, upper and lower A arms, springs, shims, sway bars etc. The rear suspension is currently BMR tubular with poly bushing and grease fittings. I still have the original stamped rear suspension and it goes with the car. The front and rear springs are new, the front springs are lowered to give the car a better stance. All the body mounts are new as are all the suspension bushings. The Firestone 500 tires are new as are the KYB shocks.
Paint:
Entire car was stripped to bare metal and coated in PPG epoxy primer. Car was then covered with three coats of 2k primer which was block sanded and then that process was repeated three separate times until the car was straight. Once the car was straight 3 coats of Marina Blue base Blue was put on followed by 3 coats of PPG clearcoat. Car was then wet sanded with 2000 grit paper and color sanded and buffed out. Paint is excellent and car is very straight. Entire care has less than half a quart of body filler in it just to hide the welds and low spots. Entire car was painted both sides of the fenders, both sides of the hood, both sides of the trunk lid. The entire floor was painted with Eastwood rubberized rust encapsulator. There is no exposed metal on this car, it is painted everywhere so it will never rust.
Interior:
All the seats have brand new upholstery, the front buckets frames were stripped and painted before the new upholstery has installed. The headliner is new, the dash and interior has been newly painted, the carpet is new, the interior chrome is new. New seat belts were installed. New 400 watt Retrosound radio with new 500 watt Sony speakers, all new wiring under the dash. Sound deadener was added to the floors.
Brakes:
The entire braking system is brand new aftermarket front disk with power. The lines are all new, the parking brake is new all the parts to the brake system have been replaced.
Fuel System:
The entire fuel system is new. New tank and sending unit along with new lines and fuel pump. Fuel line is run inside the frame. New Carb along with gas hardlines and fuel pressure gauge.
Frame:
The frame was blasted and new body mounts were welded in place. The entire frame is solid with no issues, it has been painted outside with POR15 and the inside of the entire frame is painted with Eastwood Green Zinc Frame coating. This frame will never rust.
Exhaust:
Car has original exhaust manifolds with Flowmaster mufflers, no leaks just a good basic dual exhaust system. Not too loud.
Electrical:
Car has a new front wiring harness, the battery is new as is the starter and ignition system. There are no blown fuses or issues with the electrical system. All lights, horns, reverse lights, radio etc. works. No blown fuses. I currently don’t have the console clock hooked up because it drains the battery over the winter.
Cooling:
The cooling system is excellent on this car, I upgraded the radiator to a copper 4 core, added Edelbrock high flow water pump along with an upgraded 7 blade cooling fan with heavy duty clutch. The car runs at 180 degrees all day long with no overheating problems.
Chrome:
The front and rear bumpers are new, as are the trim rings on the wheels, The door handles are new and door locks. All chrome is in very good condition. The chrome around the vent windows is a little weak showing some wear but not worth replacing. All the stainless has been buffed out.
Rubber:
All rubber seals are new, around doors, trunk, body mounts and suspension bushings are all new. The front window felts are new and the door stops are new. Rear window seals are new and felts are new as well.
Overall:
This car is in overall very good condition. Most all parts are new. I drive this car to weekend car shows and win prizes all the time. It is a very solid real SS chevelle with nice options and fun to drive. Everything is done on it so it is a turnkey car with no issues.
On Mar-27-16 at 06:19:51 PDT, seller added the following information:This car has a clean MASS. title and it titled as an SS as it should be. Also I posted pics of the VIN tag and Cowl tag on Photobucket link I set up.
On Mar-27-16 at 18:28:58 PDT, seller added the following information:Someone asked what the car looked like before I started. It actually did not look that bad from 30 feet away. It was the same color blue when I bought it but underneath it was green which according to the Cowl tag was the original color. I liked the Marina Blue so I repainted it that color. The car had a lot of body filler on it when I sanded it down and also a lot of rust on the floors, passenger side fender so that is why I replaced them with new sheet metal. I owned the car and drove it for 2 years before I decided to restore it.
